Choosing the right mattress is important for a good night’s sleep and hence for our well being. Both extremely hard and soft mattresses are not good for the body. They do not support the body properly, thus resulting in backache and fatigue.
Memory foam mattress is made of visco elastic material. This material allows the mattress to adjust to the shape of the body. The mattress becomes soft when subjected to high heat and pressure and firm when the pressure is low. Thus it conforms to the contours of the body, giving the body complete rest while sleeping.
While buying a memory foam mattress, you should carefully check its density and firmness. A high density memory foam mattress is good and lasts longer. The density of the mattress should be between 3 and 6. The firmness should be around 15 ILD. There are some mattresses that have only a thin layer of memory foam over them. It is advised that you should go for a mattress having memory foam of at least 3 to 4 inches.
Some people do not like the smell that emanates from a new memory foam mattress. You should air the mattress for a few days before using it. This would reduce or eradicate the smell. You should buy a memory foam mattress only of a reputed brand as the performance of some mattresses is affected by weather conditions, which makes the mattress too soft in summers and hard in winters. You would not face this problem with a good quality mattress. If you do not want to shell out a lot of money on a new mattress, you should opt for a memory foam cover to spread on your existing mattress. Memory foam covers are much cheaper than mattresses.
